It’s Warm and We Love It – May 15, 2013

We were right.  The drive from Fort Lauderdale to just north of Key West is long.  But once we got here, boy was it worth it!  Getting into our campsite was a little tricky because it’s a back-in with almost no space in front of it and vehicles parked everywhere.  We are actually staying on Geiger Key and have the water to our back-end with this cute little tiki hut for shade. There has been a constant breeze all day which made the 85 degree temperatures very pleasant.  The RV Park actually has a restaurant right here on the premises and we met some folks in the Fort Lauderdale RV Park who said it was very good.

We decided to head to Key West and “get the lay of the land” as Jim likes to say.  While we were driving, I decided to call some friends from Church who came down last week.  Calley Jo and Josh and Hillary and Nick were staying in Marathon (about 1 hour north of where we are) but we thought we would see if they wanted to make arrangements to meet before they left.  To our surprise, they had decided to spend the day in Key West and they were there when we called them.  We arranged to meet for dinner and had a wonderful time hearing about all they had done during their week’s stay.  After dinner, we invited them back to the RV (they had to pass right by Geiger Key anyway) to see it.photo

While we were gone, the site next to us was rented by some folks with a tent and they were sitting under their tiki hut watching the fast-moving water.  Everyone was focused on the beautiful view at the edge of the water, except Hillary.  She had already started to talk to the folks next door and was making new friends. Lynelle, she really is a “mini me”.  We came inside so they could see what it looked like but Hillary was focused on the woman next door who was spending the night in a tent and the look of discontent on her face.  I’ve seen that look on our youngest daughter’s face a few times talking about their camper, so I know it well.

Last night I fell asleep having a more positive impression of the future of this country because these young people will be a part of it.
